Safety
The bike carrier is mounted on a rigid frame equipped with two roof bars 700 mm apart.
The tests are performed on a test bike: (15 kg calibrated cycle) and all the stresses are exerted on the centre of gravity of the bike.
The roof bike carrier tests are carried out in three successive trials.

Duration: 45 minutes
Standards in force:
NFR 18903-2
ISO 11154-2
DIN 703

Roof bike carrier test.

1.1. F.A.
  • 600-Newton vertical traction for 10 minutes
  • This test simulates strong catching of the bike carrier in the wind.
  • No detachment of the bike carrier must be observed in the test.
1.2. F.L.
  • Longitudinal force in the longitudinal axis of the bike.
    • +F.L. in the forward direction
    • -F.L. in the backward direction
  • Instantaneous 600-Newton traction force
  • This test simulates an emergency braking or rear impact situation
  • No detachment of the bike carrier must be observed in the test if the bike does not move more than 50 mm.
1.3. F.LAT
  • Lateral force on either side of the bike
    • + F.Lat 1
    • - F.Lat 2
    • + F.Lat 1
    • -F.Lat 2
    • + F.Lat 3
    • - F.Lat 3
  • Instantaneous 600-Newton traction force
  • This test simulates a sharp bend or strong side wind situation.
  • No residual movement of the cycle by more than 10 mm with respect to its attachment system must be observed in the test.
  • The residual angle of the bike must be less than 10° on either side.
In addition, Automaxi is developing new tests such as city crash tests for ever greater safety.
